A complete set of the very first hockey cards, available to consumers in packages of cigarettes well over 100 years ago and offered to serious collectors here constitutes a hobby happening, with several of the men responsible for making early professional hockey a happening featured amid the three dozen well-preserved darlings. Having all been encapsulated for preservation and display by SGC, all the cards making up the checklist are designated as rookie cards, with the first group of six (6) SGC slabs housing the cards of some of the most prominent hockey forefathers to be featured on the small cardboard specimens including the likes of #1 Frank Patrick (SGC VG-EX+ 4.5), #8 Art Ross (SGC FR 1.5), #12 Art Ross (SGC VG-EX+ 4.5), #15 Fred Taylor (SGC VG-EX+ 4.5), #26 Lester Patrick (SGC FR 1.5) and #36 Newsy Lalonde (SGC PR 1). Also sporting a second group that includes over century old cardboard of #2 Percy Lesueur (SGC VG-EX 4), #3 Gordon Roberts (SGC VG+ 3.5), #14 Tom Dunderdale (SGC VG-EX 4), #17 Bruce Stuart (SGC VG 3), #20 Ernest Russell (SGC VG-EX+ 4.5) and #28 Paddy Moran (SGC VG 3), the third group profiles players such as #7 Martin Walsh (SGC FR 1.5), #10 Harry Hyland (SGC FR 1.5), #21 Jack Laviolette (SGC VG 3), #23 Didier Pitre (SGC GD 2), #27 Fred Lake (SGC VG 3) and #33 Jack Marshall (SGC PR 1). For the remaining cards in the set, included are those of #31 Horace Gaul (SGC EX 5), #11 Herb Clark (SGC VG-EX+ 4.5), #25 Art Bernier (SGC VG-EX 4), #4 Barney Holden (SGC VG-EX 4), #18 Nick Bawlf (SGC VG+ 3.5), #19 Jim Jones (SGC VG 3), #32 Harold McNamara (SGC GD+ 2.5), #22 Riley Hern (SGC GD 2), #24 Skinner Poulin (SGC GD 2), #35 Jack Marshall (SGC GD 2), #9 Angus Campbell (SGC GD 2), #13 Ed Decary (SGC GD 2), #16 Joseph Cattarinich (SGC GD 2), #30 Ernest Johnston (SGC PR 1), #34 Bruce Ridpath (SGC PR 1), #6 Edgar Day (SGC PR 1), #29 C. Toms (SGC "Authentic" - Minimum size not met) and #5 Pud Glass (SGC "Authentic" - Evidence of trimming). A true treasure to behold that is worthy of serious consideration, all the SGC holders remain in good condition and show just light handling wear via some light scratches and scuffs.
