Chronicling Ted Williams’ unparalleled career up until 1959 is Fleer’s special 80-card set, with the Red Sox’ legend coming off a 26-homer, .328 season and setting his sights on career home run number 500 when it was released. The offered ensemble is shy of the short-printed #68 card, with hardly a crease spotted and EX, EX+ and EX-MT examples looking to dominate, with NMs also contributing, along with some lesser lights. Some of the keys are among the condition exceptions and include 2-Ted’s Idol – Babe Ruth (VG+), 63-Ted’s All-Star Record (EX-MT (OC)), 75-Williams’ Value To Red Sox (VG+ (ST), 11-Williams/J. Foxx (EX+), 67-Williams/S. Snead (EX+) and 70-Williams/J. Thorpe (EX (OC)), while 1-The Early Years has lines/indentations from a quarter-inch rubber band and 80-Ted’s Goals For 1959 (VG) is affected by a right edge notch. A pieced-together assembly is evidenced by varying degrees of toning front and back. Nine duplicates bonuses are included; #s 10, 29, 35, 48, 50, 66, 70, 71 and 78. From the diamond, to the Armed Forces, to hunting and fishing, the unique set tells of Ted’s amazing, thought-provoking life.
