Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021

Two of the Montreal Canadiens early stars, Jack Laviolette was responsible for building the club and served as the first captain, coach and general manager, while Stanley Cup champion Billy Boucher scored the very first goal at the hallowed Montreal Forum. We have a pair of items featuring the duo, with an original cabinet photo of Laviolette from circa-1910, along with a 1937-38 Brighton Tigers team-signed postcard including Coach Boucher. First, the cabinet photo is just over bookmark size at approx 3” x 8”, with Laviolette depicted in dapper attire, with his name handwritten along with an impression from photographer Art Studio in Montreal. There is a bit of minor edge creasing along with toning and staining. The glossy stock postcard features the full Tigers team, with 14 signing the reverse in a vertical row including Boucher, along with Joe Doyle, Tommy Forgie, Aurel Bordeleau, Jimmy Kelly, Al Rogers, Sid Wright, Van Gibson, John Hamilton, Oscar Aubuchon, Don Grant, Gordon Poirier, Merrick Cranstoun and team trainer Bill Hawken. The signatures display well despite being somewhat bunched-up, with residue at each corner from scrapbook removal (this affects the beginning of the Boucher signature) along with some minor surface wear.
