Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019

A fabulous rendition of hockey's peerless innovator, Jacques Plante, graces the legend's official rookie card, one of the hobby's most popular and desirable. Jacques had already played parts of two seasons and been on three "action" Parkhurst cards the previous year when this card #50 was pulled from a pack. Crease-free example exhibits corner/edge wear in the red border region, denying it a higher mark than the EX-MT 6 assessment it received from PSA. The back is intriguing in that it erroneously gives a birth date of "Feb. 19/31" instead of the correct Jan. 17/29, while revealing that Plante already had a reputation of being a roaming goaltender; the write-up concluding, "He likes to wander all over the ice, giving the coach a headache." Habs' coach Toe Blake's head was surely doing alright after Plante backstopped Montreal to a still record five consecutive Stanley Cup championships(!). Hockey historians will tell you that despite a potent lineup, the Canadiens' record would not have been possible without the stellar perennial performances of the one and only Jacques Plante.
We should note some residue along with a few scratches over both the front and reverse of the PSA holder.
