Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
The all-time ‘games played’ leader for the historic Toronto Maple Leafs franchise, George Armstrong represented the mighty maple leaf for over two decades, seeing All-Star Game action in seven seasons. We have a stick used by Chief during the 1964-65 NHL season, and it’s been team-signed. A CCM Pattern Made Custom Pro model, “Armstrong” and “10” have been stamped-on over the upper shaft, with the lumber retaining its black tape over the blade and handle, and white-over-black on the knob. Roughly 18 have signed in ballpoint, with the signature’s varying in condition, with HOFers Mahovlich, Horton, Pulford, Bathgate, Moore, Stanley and Red Kelly.
Additional signers include Carl Brewer, Ron Stewart, Don McKenney, Ed Shack, Ron Ellis and others. As mentioned, the signatures vary in condition, with a number of examples somewhat light including the Horton and Stanley. Currently void of its striping accent, the stick itself exhibits good game-use, with wear to the blade including puck marks that encompass the heel section, along with additional dark marks to the shaft. There is also some red paint transfer along the underside of the shaft.
