This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Going undefeated in front of enthusiastic home fans at the Ottawa Auditorium throughout the 1922-23 NHL season, the Ottawa Senators – guided by Cy Denneny’s team-leading 31 points and backstopped by the stalwart Clint Benedict, would win the O’Brien Cup on route to defeating the Edmonton Eskimos to claim the 1923 Stanley Cup. This lot offers a rare and desirable framed 1923 Senators team photo accompanied by a collection of 9 late-1930s program inserts (QAHA Sr), 6 1940s player photos and an Allan Shields 1933-34 World Wide Gum Ice Kings V357 premium (low grade). First, the team photo is approx 7 ½” x 9 ½” and affixed to a larger mount with the players listed beneath, framed to approx 14” x 16” (no glass). Featuring 8 HOF members, the photo shows heavy surface wear across the image with most of the emulsion gone. There is also some water staining visible along the base of the mount, with heavy wear to what appears to be the original frame. The late-1930s program inserts are approx 6” x 9” and show moderate to heavier wear with Tag Millar, Wilf Hoch, Pop Irwin, Cliff Maundrell, E. Porteous (trimmed), J. MacPherson, Maynie Peterkin (trimmed), Ralph St Germaine and Joe Shields. The 1940s player photos also show moderate to heavier wear, including Ray Trainer, Emile Dagenais, Billy Robinson and two others.
