Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - March 2007
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/27/2007
Taken third overall by California in the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft, defenceman Rick Hampton moved from the Bay area to Cleveland as the Golden Seals became the Barons and contributed 16 and 18 goals respectively in the team’s two seasons in Cleveland, donning this fabulous red durene road jersey in the second, 1977-78. A Rawlings size 50 tag is in the neck while a leather strap from pant suspenders is still attached to the loop-style fight strap. With a big sewn-on crest and “Hampton” sewn across a knit nameplate, the jersey shows moderate game use with half a dozen good black stick marks on the front and a few burns on each sleeve, which also include significant blue board paint (left) and a run and dime-size hole (right). Forever-popular “defuncter” to tempt serious jersey collectors.
