A three-time Stanley Cup champion, Harry Cameron thrilled spectators with his end-to-end rushes, with the Hall of Fame defenceman renowned for his stick handling abilities and “curving” shot. Cameron would transition with Toronto from their days in the NHA as the Blueshirts, to Arenas, and finally, the St-Patricks, with additional time spent in the WCHL with Saskatoon and the AHA with St Louis. We have a pair of especially scarce vintage photos of the Pembroke native. Representing his time with the Crescents/Sheiks, each photos depicts Cameron in his Saskatoon uniform, with the smaller example approx 3 ¼” x 5 ¼”, the larger, 2 ¾” x 6 ¾”. Handwritten notations and inventory numbers appears over each reverse, with the smaller photo likely used for publication after Cameron’s death, as a stamp dated two days after his passing is also present.
The larger photo exhibits light handling wear with just a few minor surface indentations, with some creasing and surface wear to the smaller image.
Taking what he described as "a basement full of old sticks and pucks" to create a world class museum after the retirement of the Hall of Fame’s first curator, Bobby Hewitson, in 1967, Maurice H. "Lefty" Reid was raised in Leamington, Ontario, and began volunteering at the Hockey Hall of Fame after moving to Toronto where he worked as a sports layout editor, at The Toronto Telegram. Serving as secretary for the Hockey Hall of Fame selection committee as well as curator during his tenure at the Hall, Reid also held many positions with ASMHOF (Association of Halls of Fame and Museums) including President and Vice President. Later honoured with a key to the city of Peterborough after voluntarily helping to create a new sports hall of fame in the locale, Reid was honoured with induction into the Peterborough and District Sports Hall of Fame, in 2006.
