CFL legend Tommy Joe Coffey was a lock for the Canadian Football Hall of Fame so it was almost a formality when he was inducted in the Class of 1977. An exceptional receiver and place kicker, Tommy Joe totaled 971 points over the course of his 14 CFL seasons with Edmonton, Hamilton and Toronto and led the league in scoring four times. He scored 65 touchdowns and kicked 204 converts, 108 field goals and 53 singles. Coffey led the CFL in pass receptions four times and caught a career total of 650 passes for 10,320 yards. A seven-time nominee for the league’s Most Outstanding Player award, Tommy Joe was the runner-up three times, including 1962 with the Eskimos and 1967 and 1970 with the Tiger-Cats. He is honored on both the Eskimos’ Wall of Fame and the Tiger-Cats’ Wall of Honour. Offered is the Canadian Football Hall of Fame Member’s gold ring presented to Tommy Joe to commemorate his 1977 induction. “Canadian Football Hall of Fame Member” is spelled out in raised gold letters around the bezel surrounding the gold-colored CFHOF logo set in the middle of a black-colored stone on the tableau. “Coffey” is engraved on a banner at the top of the right shank with his number “75” on another banner immediately below it along with a small CFHOF logo and a receiver catching a pass in relief. The left shank has a banner with “Player” engraved on it at the top with CFL, Canadian Amateur Football and Canadian Interuniversity Athletics Union logos below it and Coffey’s “1977” induction year stamped on a banner at the bottom. Wonderful gold ring shows signs of proud wear in the form of surface scratches, the biggest being a diagonal slash through the “OO” in “Football” on the upper bezel, and a few nicks and dings to the outside of the bottom of the back of the size 11 1/2 band. Comes with Tommy Joe Coffey’s signed letter of authenticity.
