Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
The title is a good start to describe this rarity – just the second(!) to ever arrive at our headquarters – the first to still house (six) cigarettes! Intriguing aspects are the lack of an apostrophe in "Champs" on the pack, (the 1924-25 hockey cards have "Champ's Cigarettes" on the back), and "Series 1915" on the excise stamp. These stamps were used for several years; from 1915 to circa 1922-24. The Stanley Cup's image and its history are included, with a stain (front) and tears (left edge, side) to mention. “CHAMPS” is actually printed on each cigarette, with bits of dry tobacco spilling from the pack. Advertised as "Fragrant and Cool" were Champs, with this fascinating find cool indeed and possibly originally housing a Champ's hockey card.
