Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/27/2021
The last Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender to play maskless, Bruce Gamble served as backup to Johnny Bower and Terry Sawchuk during his first few seasons with the blue and white, and concluded his NHL career with parts of two seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers. From his time in Ontario in the mid-to-late-1960s, we have a multi-signed stick used by Gamble. A CCM Pattern Made Custom Pro model with “Gamble” stamped to the upper shaft, a stamp from team supplier Browns Sports graces the topside shaft. The original black tape remains over the blade, paddle and upper shaft and knob, with marks to the paddle and wear to the taped section of blade including the underside. Tears are also visible to the upper shaft tape, with areas of red paint transfer to the shaft and paddle. 11 have signed one side of the shaft in ballpoint, with the signatures modern, with a few shaky, late-in-life examples including Allan Stanley, Red Kelly, Brit Selby, Bobby Baun, Johnny Bower and Larry Hillman, along with Eddie Shack, Jim Pappin, Mike Walton, Larry Jeffrey and Brian Conacher.
