The finest, the best and better than all the rest in the history of PSA is this absolutely astonishing and captivating complete set of 1968-69 Shirriff coins that we have the honor and privilege of offering to the collecting world. Just to locate many of the more-difficult-to-find examples is a lengthy and daunting task but to assemble a set of this quality, with 84 of the 176 plastic discs in impossible-to-hope-for-nicer GEM MT 10 condition, is truly phenomenal and utterly fascinating. Another 28 coins bring the total that are second-to-none on their respective “lines” of the PSA Population Report to 112. All the individual grades and population numbers are of course available to view on the PSA Set Registry but we can tell you that there are exactly two dozen GEM MT 10 examples which are Pop 1s – alone in first place and procuring best-in-the-world bragging rights! The roster includes Hall of Famers Beliveau, Duff, Richard, Pulford, Bower, Keon and Pronovost, as well as short prints Dallas Smith, Dennis Hull (small portrait), Ron Stewart and Claude Laforge. There are another 32 GEM MT 10s which are Pop 2s, including one of the toughest of all, Carol Vadnais, along with six other SPs. Also noteworthy are Vadnais’ teammates Gary Jarrett (GEM MT 10, Pop 4, 0 higher) and Howie Young (MINT 9, Pop 5, 3 higher), while joining Stewart in the Rangers’ SP lineup are Hadfield (NM-MT 8), Jeffrey (MINT 9) and Balon (MINT 9). Superstars Bobby Orr (GEM MT 10, Pop 7, 0 higher), and Bobby Hull (GEM MT 10, Pop 5, 0 higher) are also deserving of mention and contribute to the allure. The sum is a Weighted GPA of 9.46 and a sensational Set Rating of 10.20. Over 50 years since they first made their appearance in boxes of Shirriff dessert products and forever-popular are ’68-69 Shirriff coins, with this ensemble indeed constituting a set for ages. Good luck with these oh so charming and tempting encapsulated collectibles.
