Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
One of the most popular baseball sets from the 1920s was put out by Neilson’s Chocolate in Canada, with the 1922 issue comprising 120 diamond stars and resembling the American Caramel E120 set of the same year. Neilson’s cards were printed on thin cardboard stock, with the set highlighted by the presence of Hall of Famers Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Rogers Hornsby and Grover Alexander. Originally coming with a Neilson’s Big League Bar, the Ty Cobb card here now resides in a new PSA holder labeled GOOD+ 2.5 and features an interesting image of the Detroit Tigers’ legend – check out the look on Ty’s face and his glove. PSA figures indicate the scarceness of Neilson’s cards, with just 17 Cobb examples submitted to the company over the years. This Pop 1 is edged by just six; one EX 5, one VG-EX 4, one VG+ 3.5 and three VG 3s. Being offered to the hobby for the first time is this encapsulated treasure.
