Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019

Those who love 1987-88 O-Pee-Chee cards will love this offering, with the ’87-88s coming in all shapes and sizes, so to speak. A complete set of 264 cards is housed in its original (not-sealed) factory set box, with the cards appearing never to have been looked at. Real high grade rookie cards of Robitaille, Oates, Vernon, Ranford, Hextall, Tocchet, Damphousse and Claude Lemieux, as well as cards of Gretzky, Lemieux and Roy, are thus possible. Another set appears in panel form, with 24 panels of eight cards each having a horizontal orientation and totaling 192 cards, with nothing but smooth edges and sharp corners observed. We do spot some corner dings on each of eight panels which include nine cards apiece. The 72 cards there, plus the aforementioned 192, equal 264 and a complete set. A set of four different box bottoms is present and comes from uncut sheets, (never were actually part of boxes), so they feature flaw-free, high grade examples, with key box bottom cards of Gretzky, Yzerman and Robitaille all appearing on the same piece. Completing the intriguing collection are three (identical) uncut sheets. We spot RCs of Vernon, Ranford, Damphousse, Claude Lemieux, Richer and McSorley, with Yzerman leading the (limited) star power. The sheets have remained rolled over the years, with just some lighter creasing spotted along the top row. Mighty nice cardboard awaits the high bidder here.
