Setting the record for most points during the regular season originally held by Phil Esposito, Wayne Gretzky would win both the Hart Memorial and Art Ross trophies in his sophomore campaign of 1980-81, with the Oilers sweeping a heavily-favoured Guy Lafleur and the Montreal Canadiens during the playoffs. This important historical collection of 35mm colour and b&w Edmonton Oilers negatives from the 1980-81 NHL season totals approx 1,753, with roughly 307 that feature Wayne Gretzky. The breakdown includes approx 602 colour negatives and 1,151 b&w negatives, with 206 colour negatives of Gretzky and 101 b&w negatives of the superstar. Highlights in the collection include 2 Gretzky GWG promotional images, 36 negatives of Gretzky receiving hardware, 37 images from Andy Moog’s first NHL game, approx 134 images from the 1981 Canada Cup including a few of Wayne, and 172 playoffs images, including 84 from the first round vs the Habs, and 88 from the second round vs the Islanders.
The majority of the negatives remain in excellent condition with no issues, with the contents for each particular game remaining in its own original labeled envelope.
