This fabulous 1950s Detroit Red Wings trophy puck was presented to Marguerite Norris, the first woman to have her name inscribed on the Stanley Cup! Originally obtained from a member of the Norris family, this magnificent and unique piece of hockey history was presented to Norris, who became the league’s first female executive when she took over as Red Wings president after the death of her father, James Norris Sr., in December 1952. Said to have been used during the 1954 playoffs, this proper Art Ross NHL game puck is encircled with a silver metal band around its edge that bears the inscription, “To Marguerite A. Norris, President, Detroit Red Wings, N.H.L. – Stanley Cup Champions”, along with the facsimile signatures of members of the 1953-54 team. Dated to that particular season due to the inclusion of Jimmy Peters, this unique trophy puck celebrates a classic era of Motor City hockey.
The puck exhibits wear to the logos, with one example heavily worn, with a few dings and blemishes to the affixed silver ring.
With Marguerite Norris at the helm, Detroit won three straight league titles along with consecutive Stanley Cups in 1954 and 1955, before her brother Bruce assumed the team’s presidency.
