Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Following in the footsteps of a select group of players to don the captain’s “C” of their respective squad as a teenager - including Sidney Crosby and Vincent Lecavalier, Brian Bellows serves as the youngest captain in NHL history as an interm, while Connor McDavid is the game’s all-time youngest permanent captain. Named captain of the Edmonton Oilers on Oct 5, 2016, at the start of his sophomore season, McDavid used this photo-matched stick while scoring his first NHL goal as Oilers captain in his first game wearing the “C”, in the 2016-17 pre-season, on Oct 6, 2016. A CCM Super Tacks model with “McDavid” factory graphics, the original white tape is in place on the blade with blue cloth on the handle, along with a bar code and serial number affixed to the underside. Tape has been added to the upper shaft with “1st Goal as Captain” handwritten in black marker. The stick shows nice use with puck marks to the front and reverse blade along with small chips and abrasions to the surface over the lower shaft. McDavid would end up scoring a pair in his first contest as Captain. An LOA from the Oilers will accompany.
It should be noted that the serial number on the shaft that matches the accompanying LOA has worn, with most of it still visible. An included numeric image has been matched to a number of puck marks and surface chips visible over the front side blade and lower shaft.
