This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
One of the nicer groups of vintage rubber we have ever offered, we have a collection of vintage pucks totaling 13, with 5 puck boxes included along with a pair of squared replicas of the puck used in the “First Hockey Game” in Kingston, in 1886. Highlighted by a pair of different Canadian Rubber Company pucks from the earlier part of the century, there is also a circa-1920s CCM puck with embossed side logo, a pair of Kellogg's Charlie Conacher/Aurel Joliat premium pucks from 1935-36 and a circa-1940s Northland puck with box. Next, we have “Champion” and “Superior” pucks with labels from the 1950s/60s, 2 Monarch pucks with different labels from the 1960s, and 3 additional blank Monarch pucks with boxes (2 matching blue boxes, one red). An additional Monarch puck box is included, with this one a harder-to-find dark blue example.
The Kellogg’s pucks include one high-grade example with just light wear, with the second puck exhibiting a few cuts and edge chips, along with a large slice over the “Kellogg’s” logo. The Canadian Rubber pucks both show heavy wear, with one example having a few slices/cuts and worn edges, while the second antique puck has somewhat “whitened” over time, with a couple large gouges along with an anvil-shaped carving over the reverse. The CCM Official puck with embossed side logo shows just light wear with no major issues, with the Northland boxed puck having a side-stamped logo, along with a few chips and dirt staining, with the box in low grade, with heavy toning and tears along with a missing flap. Next, the 1886 replica pucks both sport different logos, with one square with rounded corners, the other, with squared-off corners, with a white film over the former. The Champion, Superior and Monarch pucks with labels all show just light wear with no obtrusive damage, with toning to the Champion label. The blank Monarch pucks all show light wear, with the red box missing both main flaps and showing paper loss and toning, while both blue boxes remain intact, with one exhibiting heavier handling wear. Lastly, the additional dark blue Monarch box is in low grade, with the top flap missing, with toning, staining and corner/edge wear.
