Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
Joining the Verdun Juniors in 1939 at 18 years of age, Maurice Richard would see action in just 10 regular season games, with his 9 points in 4 playoff games instrumental in helping the Maple Leafs win the Junior Amateur Hockey Association championship. Verdun would then face the Trois-Rivieres League champions Notre-Dame, with the victor Verdun then advancing to the 1939-40 Eastern Canada Memorial Cup Playoffs. Originating from the personal collection of The Rocket, we have a broadside advertising the Verdun/Notre-Dame showdown. At approx 9” x 14” and on thin paper stock with the text in French, the date of “Jan 28” is listed along with the admission prices, with each club appearing in large red text along with mention of their respective league championships. An LOA from the Richard family will accompany.
The broadside has been folded many times, with a pair of distinct fold lines with one vertical and one horizontal, with a few small tears at intersections. There is also surface, corner and edge wear, with a pair of pinholes visible at the top corners, with a number of additional wrinkles and creases present. Despite the lower technical grade, the broadside displays wonderfully with bold red colouring, and just minimal toning.
