Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Combining exceptional face-off abilities with considerable scoring prowess, Stan Mikita was arguably the game’s best centerman at the peak of his career in the mid-to-late-1960s, with a pair of back-to-back Hart Memorial Trophies won in 1967 and 1968. We have a “banana hook” stick used by the Slovak during the mid-to-late-1960s. A Northland Custom Pro Glass Fused model, stamps from supplier “Gunzo’s” grace each side of the shaft, with the original tape over the blade and custom-shaved handle. With intact striping accents along with a strip of tape added to the upper shaft, the vintage HOF lumber displays nicely, with moderate to heavy wear to the lower shaft and ridiculously curved blade, including paint transfer along with some white paint spotting.
Addendum; Please take note that "Mikita" is not stamped on the knob of this stick. The custom-shaved handle, the tape jobs on the knob and blade as well as the splendid customized "banana hook" curved blade leave no doubt that Mikita used this stick.
