Described as the NHL’s top "defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position", the James Norris Trophy was practically invented for Paul Coffey, with the three-time winner arguably the most adept at both exhibiting solid defending with explosive offense. From his second consecutive James Norris-winning season, we have gloves worn by Coffey while with Edmonton in 1985-86, and they’ve been photo-matched. CCM models in Oilers colours, the identifiers have been screened-on, with square outlines visible over each wrist guard that originally housed number “7” decals. Heavy use is assured, with considerable wear to the leather and palms, with some fraying of the material over the knuckles. His career-high season for goals (48), assists (90), points (138) and plus/minus(61), a signed LOA from Paul Coffey will accompany.
Regarding the previously mentioned photo-matches, Getty Image #158909847 from March 29th 1986 has been matched to the diagonal black mark on the top left of the CCM logo on the cuff of the left glove, while Getty Image #51428009 (undated – April 1986 playoffs) has been matched to the wear pattern and marks in the "CC" of "CCM" on the cuff of the right glove.
