Argue who was the better goalie between Jacques Plante and Terry Sawchuk, and then who wore the cooler mask! These Plante and Sawchuk replica goalie mask displays have limited-edition numbers representing their regular season shutout totals. Plante, who had 82 shutouts, revolutionized goaltending on November 1, 1959 when, after he was severely cut by an Andy Bathgate shot, he insisted to Montreal Canadiens coach Toe Blake that he would not return to the net without the mask he had been wearing in practice. A replica of that mask is displayed on a 13” x 11” wood plaque, as is a replica of the Lefty Wilson mask worn by Sawchuk, who recorded 103 shutouts, an NHL record that stood for four decades.
The Plante replica mask has a black marker “P.J.” signature and “3/82” limited edition notation on the left inside edge of the chin. “Jacques Plante Limited Edition Goal Mask #3 of 82” reads the gold-colored plaque below the mask, which is attached to the wood plaque by white leather and thick canvas straps screwed on at five points.
The Sawchuk replica mask has a black marker signature and “1/103” limited edition notation on the inside edge of the left ear. “Terry Sawchuk Limited Edition Goal Mask #3 of 103” reads the gold-colored plaque below the mask, which is attached to the wood plaque by black leather and canvas straps screwed on at three points.
