Hall of Fame defenseman Brian Leetch was a natural choice to succeed Mark Messier as captain of the New York Rangers. Leetch demonstrated his leadership when he won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1994, contributing an incredible 11 goals and 23 assists for 34 points in 23 playoff games as he helped bring the Stanley Cup to Manhattan for the first time in 54 years. Leetch’s 1997-98 Rangers game-worn captain’s jersey is photo-matched to Getty Images #303191 taken on April 18, 1998 by the big long below the "N" of RANGERS and to a few small black marks on the lower front area of the jersey. “New York Rangers 1997-98 Season MeiGray Group” patch inside the left rear hem has “MGS #101884” registry number handwritten on it in black marker. Comes with a Rangers LOA and a MeiGray COR.
Starter and size 54-R tagging are sewn into the back of the neck. More solid game wear includes black marks and board burns on the left sleeve, a long black mark on the back of the right sleeve, which has a few more marks and board burns, marks on the back of the jersey to the left of Leetch’s now-retired No. 2 and on the left tail.
Starter and NHL patches are embroidered on the right rear hem.
