Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021

A momentous opportunity to land the coveted and most important rookie card of future Hall of Famer Sidney Crosby presents itself here, with Upper Deck’s “The Cup” production of 2005-06 easily outdistancing the other 17 issues which carry the “RC” designation. Limited to just 99 examples and from the high-end product’s first year, 2005-06, the masterful modern treasure recalls the season that Sid the Kid began his illustrious NHL career, living up to all the advance billing, with cards like this beauty chased and cherished by high-end box busters and collectors. Featuring a perfect blue ink autograph between Sidney’s image and a black and gold piece of a Penguins patch, this example has received a lofty mark of MINT 9 from Beckett. The sub grades are as follows: Centering 9.5, Corners 9, Edges 9 and Surface 8.5. The back of the label includes the grade of the autograph; a perfect “10”. Info on the reverse of the card further ups the overall appeal and reads in part, “On the front of this card is an authentic piece of a patch from a jersey worn by Sidney Crosby in an official NHL game.” The Beckett Population Report reveals that (as of December 2020), 76 such cards had been inspected and encapsulated by the company over the years and that just one “10” and nine 9.5s have scored higher than this example, which is joined by 34 other Mint 9s. The best of his era in the eyes of many hockey observers and the inspirational and on-ice leader in the Pittsburgh Penguins’ three most recent Stanley Cup triumphs, Crosby will go down as one of hockey’s all-time greats, rendering his rookie cards forever popular. For those who would like to own the most important, here is an infrequent chance to score, like Sid, big-time!
Some subtle light scratches/scuffs to the front of the Beckett holder are to note.
