Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
Tough to locate and rarely seen in any quantity - especially compared to their baseball and NFL counterparts – we have a wonderful collection of vintage CFL bobbing head dolls totaling 10, with most accompanied by their original box. Produced between 1961 and 1965, each doll is the standard 6 ½” in height and marked “Japan”, with both wood and papier-mache bases included. We have examples for Toronto, Edmonton, Montreal, Calgary, Hamilton (2 – one with “Hamilton” across the base), Winnipeg (2 – one with wood base and yellow stripes across helmet and shoulders, the other with lightning bolt decals and “W” sleeve logos), British Columbia (wood base) and Ottawa (wood base). Scarce and highly sought, this rare assemblage will display wonderfully!
Regarding condition, the Argos doll has a few small cracks and wear along an edge over the underside of the head along with a few minor chips to the base, while the Eskimos doll is gorgeous with just a slightly tilted head. Next, the Als bobble head exhibits a small area of glue residue on one side of the helmet, with a few areas of wear including a small crack along the underside to the head of the Stamps doll. The Ticats doll with “Hamilton” has a few cracks that travel from the base of the head upwards along with a small area of loss, while the second Ticats doll appears to have a large portion of the helmet that was broken and repaired, with some white residue over the neckline. The Bombers doll with lightning bolts remains in beautiful condition, with just the wood base detached to mention for the second Winnipeg example. Finally, the Lions doll has some glue residue along the base of the helmet, along with a few fine cracks that start at the base, while the Riders bobble head has a bit of damage to the underside, with a few tiny chips to the doll and base. The boxes vary in condition and include 8 that appear original, with three having “Mascot” picture labels.
