Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
Remembered for their Playoff exit from Steve Smith’s own goal in 1986, the mid-1980s Oilers almost matched the five consecutive Cups won by the legendary Montreal Canadiens in the late-1950s. This lot contains miniature Stanley Cups from all four of those Oilers victories, in 1984, 1985, 1987 and 1988, and each has been signed by Wayne Gretzky. Standing just over 8”, each trophy features adhered Oilers plaque with cup winning year, and each has been numbered and limited to 250. Wayne has signed each just above the plaque, and a hologram from Upper Deck has been added to each near the base, with matching COA’s to accompany the 1985 and 1988 examples.
The 1984 mini-trophy has been hand numbered 98/250, and contains a nice Gretzky signature with UD hologram numbered BAE94991. The 1985 mini-trophy has been hand numbered 203/250, and contains a nice thin Gretzky signature with UD hologram numbered BAF17208. The 1987 mini-trophy has been hand numbered 161/250, and contains a nice thin Gretzky signature with UD hologram numbered BAF25814. Lastly, the 1988 trophy has been hand numbered 1/250, and it also contains a thin Gretzky signature that shows some loss to the “W”, with UD hologram numbered BAF40674. The original boxes also accompany, and they remain in good condition with heavy handling wear. An added bonus is a matching mini-trophy for the 1992 Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins, and it’s been signed my Mario Lemieux just above the Penguins plaque.
