Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
Wayne Gretzky has added a bold, blue marker signature low on the shaft of his game-used two-piece stick from the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. Red and grey Easton Silver Tip model with Gretzky factory graphics including facsimile signature. “Gretzky” has been stamped onto the inserted wood blade with Wayne’s familiar black “Jack the Gripper” knob at the other end. Heavy coating of baby powder remains on the “bulldog” wrap covering the blade and on-ice use includes light shaft wear with a few marks and stick scrapes along both sides of the blade tape. This stick has been specially customized with an additional code written on the butt end and a small hologram sticker added by our consignor.
Sticks used by Wayne at the 1996 World Cup are quite uncommon and have become highly sought-after by collectors of his gamers. Wayne would score 7 points including 3 goals during his 8 games at the 1996 tournament. Canada would bow out to USA in the three-game final series, taking second place overall.
