Already having blown past the National Hockey League's all-time point record of 1,850 that was held by his boyhood idol Gordie Howe the year prior, Wayne Gretzky continued to add his name to the record books during the early-1990s as a member of the Los Angeles Kings, reaching the cusp of the 2000 career point plateau on October 23rd, 1990 in a game agains the Calgary Flames on home ice at the Great Western Forum in Inglewood, California. Coming on a goal that was scored by teammate Bob Kudelski at 18:34 of the 3rd period to cement a 6-4 Los Angeles win, the goal would be assisted by both Gretzky and Brad Jones with the point being the 1,999th of Gretzky's still relatively young career. Scooped up off the ice after the goal, with the marker for a short time serving as the NHL's all-time record, the puck, made by Inglasco and featuring a Kings logo on one face with the NHL shield inside an orange circle on the other, has had now faded notations reading "#99 1999 PT - G37, A-99, 47" penned to the NHL shield side in black marker ink. Also having had a piece of white hockey tape affixed all the way around the edge, the same notations have been penned to it in the same thin black marker ink pen with these ones much more legible. Displaying game-wear via a number of cuts, scuffs and scratches as well as some light wear to the team and league logos that are observed over both sides, the puck was gifted by Wayne to Kings bench assistant, Bill Blair, after Gretzky told him "Bill, I can't get in my house now with all the pucks", as outlined in the letter of provenance penned by Blair's wife, which will accompany the piece along with a few 4" x 6" photos of Blair in his role with the Kings and with players such as Gretzky after he scored his 802nd career goal, and Dave Taylor.
