Potting 41 goals and contributing 122 assists to finish the 1990-91 regular season with a total of 163 points in 78 games played in his third season as a member of the Los Angeles Kings, Wayne Gretzky would clear Brett Hull by a total of 32 points to claim the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL's top scorer for the year. Offered here, we present this stick used by "The Great One" during the 1990-91 season. An Easton Aluminum HXP 5100 model "Gretzky" factory graphics are seen over the upper portion of the shaft. Retaining Wayne's patented "Jack the Gripper" over the handle, the scoring king's original black tape job has been removed from the blade to facilitate "The Great One's" flowing black marker ink signature that has been penned over the forehand side, which displays well despite some lightness in areas, likely due to the surface it was signed on and a weak writing utensil along with age. Sporting a handwritten notation reading "D16" penned by Kings equipment man Peter Millar over the butt end in black marker, the code is believed to signify “D” for the fourth stick used in the match, and “16” for the LA Kings’ 16th game of the season, in this case a 5-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings on November 8th, 1990 at Great Western Forum in which Wayne registered both a goal and an assist. Featuring an Easton blade inserted into the bottom of the shaft that has "Gretzky" stamped over the stem in small letters, the stick displays game-use via marks and abrasions over the shaft along dark coloured marks over both the blade stem and untaped section of the blade near the heel and toe, the stick also sports a red post paint transfer mark on the forehand side of the heel and a small chip at the top side of the toe as well. A desirable piece from the game's all-time greatest player, a Shawn Chaulk LOA will accompany the piece.
