Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
This Wayne Gretzky 1987-88 Edmonton Oilers Titan TPM2020 game-used stick may have seen duty in the 1987 Canada Cup tournament. Wayne’s original tape jobs remain on the knob and blade. His famous No. "99" is handwritten in black marker below the knob and "W. Gretzky" is factory stamped high on the shaft. The date code "257808" stamped low on the back of the shaft is August 1987, so it is possible that Gretzky used this gamer during the 1987 Canada Cup tournament, when the Great One teamed up with Super Mario Lemieux in one of the greatest displays of combined talent in international hockey history. The tape job on the blade is worn through along the bottom edge.
More game use shows in black marks and red paint transfer along the shaft, which has a small chip on the bottom edge of the front at the level of the date stamp on the back. The “1-002” stamp is low on the shaft just above the heel. Numbers handwritten on the butt end’s tape were added later.
