Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
Already having a pair of National Hockey League seasons under his belt by the time the dawn of the 1981-82 campaign rolled around, Wayne Gretzky would pot a total of ninety-two (92) goals and 216 points during the season, earning NHL MVP and top scorer honours in the process to the surprise of no one. Also having been a member of Team Canada at the 1981 Canada Cup before the season got underway, posting twelve (12) points in seven (7) games played, offered here is this 1981 Titan TPM stick used by "The Great One" that is attributed to have been obtained from Gretzky by a doctor on Team Canada's staff after one (1) of the two (2) games against the Soviet Union at the Montreal Forum, either on September 9th or September 13th, the second of the two (2) contests being the tournament Finals. A Titan TPM model twig that sports a familiar red and white paint job over the shaft, "W. Gretzky" is stamped to the upper shaft while a production date stamp reading "SEP 4 1981" is found on the underside of the lower shaft as well. Retaining its original white-over-black tape job around the handle/knob and blade around the blade, Wayne's number "99" is penned to the shaft just below the handle tape in heavily faded blue marker ink. Displaying a "WG" pattern code in pencil on the underside of the heel, the stick shows game-wear via a number of marks and abrasions throughout the shaft, lower shaft, heel and areas of the blade that are void of tape, the glue of one (1) ring of tape has dried out and come loose. Also showing a number of red post paint transfers throughout the shaft and lower shaft, the stick will come accompanied with a Shawn Chaulk LOA.
