The Great One wore this wonderful Jofa helmet while with the Edmonton Oilers during the 1987 Stanley Cup Finals. Well-worn blue Jofa model 51234 made famous by Wayne features his storied "99" in orange decals on the back with the Oilers logos high up on each side. Wayne has signed the helmet in silver paint pen and added the date of "1987". The signature is certainly correct, but in a later style. Video evidence proves this helmet is the one he was wearing in Game 6 of the series as Wayne and company traveled to Philadelphia to battle the Flyers. A few wraps of black cloth tape hold together the left ear piece and this quick-fix is easy to spot in game action from the Thursday, May 28th match at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. A copy of the VHS footage of the game will be included along with the helmet as your assurance of authentication. This piece also comes with amazing provenance! Wayne gifted the historic helmet to Edmonton Oilers teammate Moe Lemay at some point after the Stanley Cup victory. Moe tells us that the helmet is in the same condition as the day he accepted it (with noted tape repair and a crack at the lower left adjustment screw) but it appears that the lid might have seen some use after the 1986-87 season. Moe, who has held onto the helmet from that day to this, details the story and has signed the included letter of provenance. An extremely rare and astonishing find!
