Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
Wayne Gretzky’s future fame was foretold in this classic 1972 photo of The Great One as a boy loving every moment of being hooked by his idol, the one and only Gordie Howe. Taken at the 1972 Kiwanis “Great Men of Sports” dinner in Brantford, Ontario, Wayne’s hometown, this attractive photo printed on canvas has been signed by both hockey legends. Gordie and Wayne have each applied gold paint pen signatures across their respective image, with Howe adding “Mr Hockey”. The signatures display nicely and blend into the darker background somewhat. Framed to full dimensions of 24” x 36” (there is light wear to the frame), a WGA hologram has been placed over the bottom left, with the handwritten limited-edition number of “15/99”. A COA from WGA will accompany.
** ADDENDUM It should be noted that there is a small 1/2" surface scratch to the canvas near Wayne's left elbow, with this appearing to have originated from the canvas being pushed through from the reverse. This does not affect either signature whatsoever, and is mentioned for the strictest accuracy.
