Earning 12 division titles and a trio of Presidents' Trophies since inception, the Washington Capitals have won a single Stanley Cup in 2018, with the numbers of four prestigious players retired by the club including Mike Gartner and Rod Langway. This lot contains a great Capitals postcard and team card collection of approx 673, ranging from the first season in 1974-75, to 2006-07, with 71 examples signed. The breakdown for the items in the group is as follows. 1970s – 41 postcards with postal reverses including Charron, Bailey, Wolfe, Patrick, Watson and others, 1974-75 – 30 team cards including Joly, Low, Mohns, Schmidt (GM) and others, 1975-76 – 27 team cards including 1 signed with Low, Joly, Bennett (signed) and others, 1976-77 – 27 team cards including 2 signed, 1977-78 – 24 team cards including 1 signed (Charron), 1978-79 – 27 team cards including 1 signed (Walter), 1979-80 – 26 team cards with 2 signed (Jarvis and MacKinnon), 1979-80 – 27 oversized team cards, 1980s – 17 postcards with postal reverses including Carpenter, Maruk, Engblom, Langway, Jarvis and others, 1980-81 – 25 team cards, 1981-82 – 26 team cards including 2 signed (Carpenter and Ribble), 1982-83 – 27 team cards including 19 signed (Stevens, Carpenter, Gartner, Jarvis, Mruk, Langway and others), 1983-86 – 9 signed oversized team cards including Gartner, Schofield, Christian, Langway and others), 1984-85 – 15 team cards, 1985-86 – 15 team cards, 1987-88 – 24 oversized team cards, 1988-89 – 11 oversized team cards, 1989-90 – 13 oversized team cards, 1990-91 – 23 oversized team cards including 1 signed (Beaupre), 1991-92 – 30 oversized team cards including 5 signed (Burridge, Hatcher, Khristich, Ridley and Pivonka), 1992-93 – 44 oversized team cards including 1 signed with Tabaracci (these come in both firmer and thinner stock), 1993-94 – 3 oversized team cards, 1994-95 – 27 oversized team cards including 2 signed (Kaminski and Kolzig), 1995-96 – 14 Wheaties cards, 1999-00 – 23 team cards, 2000-01 – 17 team cards including 3 signed (Bondra, Kolzig and Johansson), 2002-03 – 30 team cards, 2003-04 – 18 team cards, 2005-06 – 21 signed team cards including rookie-season Ovechkin, 2006-07 – 12 team cards including 1 signed (Semin). There is also a number of additional misc items including 1987 and 1988 Fan Appreciation Day photos in folders, a 1993-94 Capitals photo album and more. The majority of the postcards/team cards in the collection remain in beautiful condition with just very light handling wear.
