Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
A holy grail item for Bobby Orr collectors with only a few specimens known, we offer an utterly scarce 1965-66 Oshawa Generals Bobby Orr premium photo card recently graded G-VG 2 by Beckett. The OHA Toronto Marlboros programs/scorecards for games played at Maple Leaf Gardens between 1963-64 and 1966-67 had a Toronto Marlboros player photo inserted on one of the pages and were mounted between two die-cut slits in the center or right-side of a page. These photos were also inserted into Memorial Cup championships programs/scorecards which were played at Maple Leaf Gardens in the four years these cards were issued: the first being 1963-64 Toronto Marlboros vs Edmonton Oil Kings. However, in 1965-66 the Oil Kings played the Oshawa Generals, a team which featured a very young Bobby Orr and the programs included cards from those two clubs including a chance to get the Orr premium photo offered here. At 4" x 5", a teenage Orr is pictured in a cameo image with his name beneath, with the reverse blank. Displaying creasing/toning to the top left and bottom right corners of the piece, light toning is observed at the edges which is heavier on the reverse than the front. Also showing an almost microscopic tear at the top edge, the Beckett holder remains in excellent condition with only a couple of light scratches being observed.
