This cool Toronto Marlboros circa 1963 game-worn wool jersey is attributed to NHLer Wayne Carleton and displays team repairs! A spectacular and colorful embroidered Marlies crest on the front is sewn on the white felt maple leaf crest with blue thread vein accents. Number 9 on the back and both sleeves is sewn-on white felt and the "Doug Laurie Sporting Goods Maple Leaf Gardens" and "Dry clean with care" flag tags remain inside sewn into the left hip seam. According to our research, this style of jersey with three eyelets would have been worn between 1961 and 1964. Brian Conacher wore #9 in 1961-62 and Carleton wore #9 the next four seasons, from 1962-63 until 1965-66. We count 24 wool fabric patches inside the jersey as vintage team repairs which also shows evidence of a former alternate captain's A on the breast. There are various holes throughout the jersey that do not diminish this historic wool sweater’s display. The Marlboros were the 1963-64 Memorial Cup champions.
