Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
Completing the season a few wins behind first-place Detroit, the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated Boston in the semifinals before meeting the Rocket and the Montreal Canadiens in the 1951 Stanley Cup final. The series would go only five games, with the powerful Leafs victorious after Bill Barilko scored his famous overtime winner on Gerry McNeil in Game 5. We offer a pair of team-signed sheets from the 1951 Stanley Cup champion Leafs. Both 5" x 8" sheets with "Toronto Board of Trade Members Room" printed at the top of the first sheet, 11 blue ink signatures appear in a vertical row, while the second sheet sports 11 blue ink signatures also in a vertical row. Signers include goal-scoring hero Barilko and HOFers Kennedy, Watson, Broda, Flaman, Meeker, Bentley and coach Joe Primeau, along with Sloan, Smith, Gardner, Thomson, Lewicki, Klukay, Mackell, McCormack, Mortson, Tingren, Juzda, Rollins, trainer Daly and asst. trainer Smith. Three players have also signed twice, with their second signature on the reverse of the second sheet, and these include Watson, Thomson and Mortson. The signatures present beautifully including the Barilko, with heavy toning to the sheets. A modern 12" x 18" colour print of the 1950-51 Leafs team photo will accompany, along with an LOA from Classic Auctions.
