Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Finishing the regular season with a record of 32–15–13 to tops the National Hockey League by five (5) points over the Detroit Red Wings, the 1947-48 edition of the Toronto Maple Leafs would knock off both the Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings in the playoffs to claim the franchise's seventh Stanley Cup championship and the second of three straight. Offered here, we present this stick that has been signed by twenty-four (24) members of the 1947-48 Maple Leafs. A generic store model offering that features some minor discolouration throughout the shaft and a green accent striped painted around the bottom, the stick retains its original black tape job on the blade which has lifted in areas. With the outline of a no longer present label sticker present near the bottom of the stick on the side with all the signatures, the vintage lumber shows with some cracks in the toe and lower portion of the shaft as well. Signed by twenty-four (24) including deceased Hall of Famers Hap Day (coach), Syl Apps, Ted Kennedy, Harry Watson, Turk Broda, Foster Hewitt and what appears to be Bobby Hewitson, other identifiable autographs have been penned by Howie Meeker, Bill Ezinicki, Joe Klukay, Jim Thomson, Gus Morton, Wally Stanowski, Nick Metz, Don Metz, Garth Boesch, Norman Poile, Gaye Stewart, Harold Cotton, Wes McKnight (broadcaster) and Court Benson (Hot Stove Lounge) plus what appears to be Bob Goldham and two (2) other unidentifiable signatures. All signed in a mix of black fountain pen and pencil, most of the signatures display well and remain legible while some are light from age or have been smudged. A Classic Auctions LOA will accompany the piece.
