Joining his famous brother as an NHL superstar beginning in the 1968-69 season as a member of the Stanley Cup-champion Montreal Canadiens, goaltender Tony Esposito was claimed on waivers by the Chicago Black Hawks the following season where he earned the coveted Calder Memorial Trophy. Tony O would guard the “Madhouse on Madison” crease for his entire career, appearing in six All-Star Games while securing a trio of Vezina trophies. Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1988, offered here, we present this stick used by "Tony-O" in the era of the late-1970s. A Northland Registered Pattern model with “Esposito” stamped to the upper shaft, Esposito's number "35" is also penned to the upper shaft in black marker ink. Retaining the original tape job of black over the blade and paddle as well as white-over-black tape on the knob, the "Registered Pattern" number of "9121" is stamped to the shaft and the striping accent remains intact over the handle. With the top of the paddle having been sanded down by Tony to his liking, the stick shows heavy use via puck marks over both sides of the blade tape, paddle and shaft with the backhand side of the upper shaft also sporting numerous red coloured post paint transfer marks as well. With additional battle scars present in the form of some small dings to the reverse side of the blade from making contact with Espo’s blade tips, wear is found to the underside of the heel and a crack is observed at the bottom edge of the paddle around halfway up the desirable vintage lumber.
