No stranger to representing Team Canada, Theoren Fleury last donned the sacred maple leaf while winning a gold medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics, an event he himself has referred to as the pinnacle of his career. Theoren would net a pair of assists in six games, with the gold medal won the first for Team Canada in 50 years. This Team Canada jersey was worn by Fleury during the tournament, and it’s been video and photo-matched. An IIHF label along with a Nike “54” size tag sit along the collar, with an IIHF patch over the reverse bottom hem. Styled with the familiar Hockey Canada team crest that first saw use in 1995, the solid white garment has been accented with red tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers with black trim, with matching alternate patches over each shoulder. An LOA on Classic Auctions letterhead signed by John Pickett (Nike Hockey) and Frank Selke Jr. (Special Olympics Canada) will accompany.
Game-wear on the international garment includes a large stick mark on the lower front, with a few additional marks over each sleeve. Regarding the previously mentioned video-match, an included VHS tape shows footage that has been matched to marks on the left cuff and on the lower right side, while Getty Image #72342469 from Feb 18th 2002 has been photo-matched to the big black stick mark below the team crest. We should also note that Classic Auctions originally sold 23 jerseys from the 2002 Team Canada Olympic hockey team, with this jersey part of that original sale back in 2003.
