Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
A participant in the infamous “Punch-up in Piestany” brawl between Canada and the Soviet Union at the 1987 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, Theoren Fleury would compete in 15 NHL seasons, with the majority of his career spent with Calgary which included a Stanley Cup Championship in 1989. This Flames alternate captain’s jersey was worn by the Oxbow native in 1998-99, and it’s been photo-matched. A size “52” fly tag is affixed to the collar, with embroidered CCM and NHL crests on the back bottom hem. Styled with the familiar Flames team crest in triple layered twill, the solid white V-neck has been accented with slanted double-twill sleeve and verso numbers, with the alternate’s “A” resembling Atlanta’s crest. The team patch has been heat-pressed onto the inner hem, and it states that this garment is a “White Jersey #1 of 2” example. A team LOA will accompany.
Game-wear is heavy on this Fleury garment, with a ton of black stick marks littering the lower front and sleeves. Board burns are also present along with some paint transfer over the right sleeve. As a testament to its thorough use, a few small holes are also present, along with some staining along the right side of the lower front. Regarding the previously mentioned photo-match, Getty Image #393649 from Dec 8th 1998 has been matched to the long diagonal washed-out black mark on the right sleeve that goes through the yellow striping.
