Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966, Ted “Teeder” Kennedy played his entire 696 game National Hockey League career in the uniform of the Toronto Maple Leafs, leading the blue and white to five Stanley Cup’s and serving as captain in eight of his 14 seasons. Initially hanging up his skates for the first time at the conclusion of the 1954-55 season and watching the entirety of the following year from the stands at Maple Leaf Gardens, Kennedy came out of retirement briefly to play the back half of the 1956-57 season to help the Leafs, who were short on players due to injuries and were struggling. He scored 22 points in 30 games, but the Leafs finished out of the playoffs. Offered here, we present this charming presentation platter presented to Kennedy by the franchise in celebration of his career on October 8th, 1955. Engraved with "Presented to Ted "Teeder" Kennedy by the Board of Directors, Maple Leaf Gardens, Oct. 8, 1955" in the center of the tray, the piece, made of copper and plated with silver, measures roughly 25" across from handle to handle. Additionally, surrounding the inscription are the engraved signatures of all of the board members, including that of Mr. Conn Smythe. Remaining in excellent condition overall and showing with some toning/patina and surface scratching that is worth mentioning for accuracy, the piece originally hails directly from the Kennedy family and is accompanied by an LOA signed by his son, Mark Kennedy.
