Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/22/2010
This one is a mystery. A strip of white tape along the edge of this circa-1951 NHL game puck holds the key. The notations in ink have long since faded, leaving just a single hint? the word "opening". Certainly a puck from an important event as Kennedy kept it all these years. One possibility surrounds the October 15, 1951 afternoon exhibition game between the Leafs and the Chicago Black Hawks in which Kennedy was presented to the soon-to-be Queen Elizabeth of England. Perhaps the puck is from the opening face-off of that match? Or even a gamer from the 1951 Stanley Cup finals? We may never know. Obtained from the family of former Leafs' captain Ted Kennedy, complete with their signed letter of provenance.
