A consummate leader and superstar for the past 15 seasons, Sidney Crosby has achieved every possible milestone and earned every deserving accolade associated with greatness, with just his longevity still up for debate. Historically significant and originating from the genesis of one of the NHL’s premier players, this Pittsburgh Penguins jersey was worn by superstar Sidney Crosby during the warm-up of his first regular season game ever played in Pittsburgh, on Oct 8, 2005. Additionally noteworthy as the game Crosby scored his first NHL goal, the jersey was later offered in the charity event designed to help the relief efforts following Hurricane Katrina. A label with “54” sizing and “87” handwritten is affixed to the collar, with Reebok and NHL crests over the reverse neckline and bottom hem respectively. Styled with the Pens team crest that saw use from 2002 to 2016, “87” appears over the sleeves and verso in layered tackle twill, with the Cares Katrina Relief Fund crest just above the right breast. We should note that the “8” over the right sleeve was inadvertently placed upside down (doesn’t affect display value), with what appears to be glue residue to the left of the reverse numbers. Remaining in absolutely gorgeous condition, the team patch denoting the garment as a “Katrina Hurricane Relief Jersey” resides on the inside hem, with a COA from the NHLPA to accompany. A predominant specimen worn by one of the sport’s absolute finest practitioners at the dawn of his soon-to-be Hall of Fame career, this prized garment’s desirability and value will escalate considerably as time moves forward.
