Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017

Russian rookie Sergei Samsonov’s 1997-98 Bruins game-worn jersey with three team repairs, inner pilling and loads of black marks is from his Calder Trophy season! Though he was chosen eighth by Boston in the first round of the 1997 NHL Draft, Samsonov was actually the second pick by the Bruins, who took Joe Thornton at No. 1 overall. But it was Samsonov who broke from the gate faster in Boston with 22 goals and 47 points to take rookie of the year honors as both he and Thornton made their NHL debuts in 1997-98. Starter and NHL tagging are sewn in the back of the neck along with a size 54-R tag. Custom Crafted Boston Bruins 1st Set 1997-98 Season team patch is stamped inside the rear tail.
There are two team repairs on the back of the right sleeve, and another sewing fix on the left sleeve. The front tail is covered with black marks that offer testimony to the hooking tactics of that era and there are plenty more black marks on the sleeves, with a couple more on the left rear tail. Starter and NHL logos are embroidered on the right rear tail.
