Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
Montreal’s fourth straight Stanley Cup, the Habs’ tradition of excellence continued during the 1978-79 season as they captured the Prince of Wales Trophy and the Stanley Cup, both for the fourth straight year, and secured their spot as one of hockey’s greatest dynasties. Guy Lafleur made it five straight 50-goal seasons, with Bob Gainey taking home the Selke Trophy. We have a Stanley Cup championship trophy that was presented to defenceman Rod Langway in 1979 celebrating the Habs fourth straight consecutive Cup. Standing at a majestic 13” and mounted to a wooden base, the names of the men who made it happen are engraved in three columns below the Habs executives, with “Club de Hockey Canadien” and “1978-79”. We should note that the trophy is currently detached from its base, but still displays as though attached. From the personal collection of Rod Langway, an LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
Covered with a rich coat of patina, the trophy has wear to the surface in numerous spots, with a few blemishes and marks also present. We should also note some minor wear to the wooden base, especially along edges.
