Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021

Stating “fear of regret” as his reason for defecting from his native Czechoslovakia to Canada as a seventeen-year-old in 1989, as regulations in his country made it almost impossible to pursue a career as a professional athlete elsewhere, Petr Nedved became a Canadian citizen in July, of 1993. After a contract dispute with Vancouver the following year, Nedved suited-up for his new homeland for 17 games before representing Canada at the 1994 Winter Olympics, where the offered photo-matched Team Canada jersey was worn. Produced by Reebok with a logo over the right breast, a Tackla label is affixed to the collar, with the light mesh jersey measuring-out to roughly a size 54. Featuring a sublimated team crest with rubberized sleeve and verso numbers, “Nedved” appears sublimated over the affixed mesh nameplate. We should also note that images from the tournament do not show Nedved wearing this jersey in the gold medal game.
Showing nice game-use with a number of dark marks throughout, there are also burns over the left sleeve, with additional wear to the bottom of the reverse numbers. A pair of images from the tournament has been matched to the black mark on the lower right sleeve, while a third image shows the white spot on the back left shoulder area. Nedved would score 31 points for Team Canada in the 17 games, with an additional 6 points scored including 5 goals in the 8 games played at the ‘94 Albertville Olympics.
