Playing his entire junior hockey career with the Windsor Compuware Spitfires in the OHL between 1984 and 1988 until an eye injury forced him to give up playing, Paul Maurice transited to being behind the bench, taking up coaching and working through the ranks to the NHL where he has been the bench boss for over 1700 National Hockey League games. Offered here, is this 1987-88 OHL Windsor Compuware Spitfires game-worn captain’s jersey donned by Maurice. Made by Cooper, brand, size “extra-large” (measuring out to a size 48) and CAHA tags are affixed to the inner collar with the logos for Cooper and Essex Sports embroidered over the rear hem. A brown, orange and white polyester garment, the front is decorated with a fully embroidered Compuware Spitfires logo while the ghosting outline of the captain’s “C” is seen over the left breast. The sleeves and verso have been accented with Maurice’s number “5” in dual layer orange-over-white tackle twill numerals while the interior sports a customized coin and skate lace style fight strap. Exhibiting good game-use, holes and stick marks are seen over the front and both sleeves with additional wear found in the form of fabric runs on the front and board burns plus paint transfers on the sleeves. Also including with the piece, a period correct Compuware Spitfires puck is included, in good condition despite a chip observed at 2 o’clock. Hailing from the collection of Lorne Goldenberg, his signed LOA will accompany the piece.
