Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
A grab-bag of collectible and rarely-seen Summit Series material, we have a great group of Canada-Russia items that include books, posters, pennants, newspapers and more, with this collection augmented by the fact that it originates from the series’ most important participant, Paul Henderson. Included, we have programs for the matches vs Sweden (Sept 16 & 17, 1972) and Czechoslovakia (Sept 30, 1972), a Russian line-up pamphlet with photos of players from both Canada and Russia (9” x 11”), 6 official Summit Series home TV programs, and a 1990 Legends of Hockey team-signed program with Henderson, Cournoyer, Frank Mahovlich, Henri Richard and others (not all 72 Team Canada players). This is followed by a trio of posters, with a CCM poster congratulating Henderson (17” x 23”), along with a matching pair featuring Team Canada 1972 (24 ½” x 36”), with other items also included. A signed LOA from Paul Henderson will accompany.
Also included in this desirable grouping of Paul Henderson’s personal material, we have a few modern magazines, a Canada-Russia album, a collection of 8 photos including a pair that feature Henderson with Tretiak, tickets to events in Russia (not hockey), a pair of menus from Henderson’s Winning Goal family restaurant, 4 vintage Russian pennants (most likely gathered during 1972 trip), over a dozen newspapers and more. The programs remain in excellent condition, exhibiting just handling wear, with a pair of the home TV programs stained, with moderate to heavier wear to the posters, including toning and light staining to the CCM example. The Canada-Russia album has scratches to the vinyl, along with a few tears to the record sleeve, with heavy toning and wear to the newspapers.
