The WHA’s all-time leader with 962 penalty minutes, defenseman Paul Baxter spent a good portion of his hockey career in the penalty box, including another 1,564 PIMs in the NHL. It’s hard to understand where he found the time to record 43 points with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1981-82 because his 409 penalty minutes ranks second all-time for a single NHL season! Baxter’s photo-matched early-1980s Penguins game-worn jersey is a circa 1981 gamer with custom-shortened sleeves and a canvas fight strap loop is most likely from Pittsburgh’s second set of 1980-81 or possibly 1981-82. It is matched to Getty Images photo #72929968 by the black marks on the #4 on the left sleeve.
Rubberized Penguins crest heat-screened on the front is wonderfully preserved. The heat-screened No. 4 on the back has an outline within the yellow portion. SK Sandow Sporting Knit and laundry instruction flag tags remain in the back of the neck and the Sandow SK logo is heat-screened in black vinyl on the right rear tail. More game wear includes black marks on the left rear tail, left front tail and both sleeves, board burns on the sleeves, and an unrepaired burn hole on the back of the right sleeve.
